Dr.Radha Bhaskar, M.A., Ph.D (Music), Diploma in Journalism, is a rare combination of a vocal musician, musicologist, teacher, journalist and cultural organizer. She is a disciple of Padma Bhooshan P.S.Narayanaswamy and has performed concerts all over India and abroad. She has received several awards like Kala seva Bharathi, Yuva Kala Bharathi, Sangeetha Sudhamayi, Sangeetha Kalasevak, Ganamrutha Rathna, Sangeetha Sevamani, Sangeetha Kala Bharathy, Acharya Award, Sparkling Diamond Award, best vocalist award from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Indian Fine Arts Society etc.Radha has given music programmes and interviews in all leading television channels.
Dr. Radha had the rare privilege of conducting a spectacular group singing programme “Sankaram- 2004” by 5,000 school children in October 2004 at the University Centenary auditorium, Chennai in the presence of the former President of India, Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam. She also received a special grant from the Ministry of Culture to conduct a mass group singing under the theme “National Integration through music.”
Radha holds a doctorate degree in music for her thesis- “Karnatic Music Concerts an analytical study.” She was a recipient of the Junior Research Fellowship from UGC to pursue her research. She has given many lecture demonstrations and also participated in several prestigious panel discussions all over India. Dr.Radha had also been a music critic for Indian Express for several years (under the pen name Bharani) and contributed analytical reviews and articles. Radha is presently the Editor of the prestigious art magazine Samudhra (a magazine for music, dance, drama), which has carved a niche for itself in the fine arts field. She is the Treasurer of the unique cultural organization Mudhra, noted for its novel and purposeful programmes.
Radha is also the Director for Mudhra’s “Music Appreciation Programme” which has successfully completed many music workshops. This program has envisaged great response and appreciation from all music lovers. She had the rare honour of being invited by the Embassy of India, Muscat to conduct a one day workshop on music appreciation. She has also visited Singapore for music workshop and concerts. Radha has released the first ever DVD titled “Introduction to Music” and also a CD titled “Appreciating Varnam to Tillana” and “Ragha Vaibhavam.”
Dr.Radha also had the honour of being an Expert Committee Member in the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and Member of the Board of Studies of Indian Music at Madras University and Annamalai. University.
